Signature Events

Fun to last the whole year round
The Parkland has a number of signature events that draw large crowds every season. Some of these same events have been operating for decades, including Dauphin’s Countryfest and Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival, Swan River’s Northwest Round-Up and Exhibition, and Russell’s Beef and Barley Festival, to name a few.

Late June / Early July

Dauphin’s Countryfest, end of June/early July, Dauphin. With three stages running simultaneously, Countryfest attracts an impressive contingent of artists for four days of first-class entertainment. Set in a beautiful outdoor amphitheatre, the event offers much more than just music—a variety of food vendors, on-site camping, workshops and contests provide non-stop enjoyment to the 10,000 fans in attendance. July

Riding Mountain Film Festival, Wasagaming. The festival inspires visitors to create an emotional investment in our natural environment through the power of film and storytelling. Screened films include documentaries about environmentalism, agriculture, adventure, the local food movement and regionally-inspired films. Digital media camps are also held for youth. Northwest Round-Up and Exhibition, end of July, Swan River. Events include the Chamber of Commerce Monster Parade, chuckwagon races, midway, concert, horse shows, dances, talent stage, pancake breakfasts, rodeo, heavy horse pull, and more. August

Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival, August long weekend (1st weekend of August), Dauphin. Celebrating Ukrainian culture, this annual festival features dancing, music, arts and cuisine at Selo Ukraina Hillside Amphitheatre. Western Days, Sandy Lake. Events include a pancake breakfast, parade with live music and Ukrainian dancing, Kiddie Korner, and clay-oven-baked bread and borscht lunch. Phone 204-585-2744 or 204-585-2636.

October

Beef and Barley Festival, Thanksgiving weekend (second weekend of October), Russell. Trade fair, Country Hoedown, mini Folkfest, children’s activities, cabaret and more. Phone 204-773-2456 or 204-773-2238.

Hoof’n’Holler Days, Thanksgiving weekend (second weekend of October), Ste. Rose du Lac. Enjoy the indoor rodeo, pancake breakfast, beef barbecue, ranchers’ banquet, dances, Hoof ‘n’ Holler Queen Contest, parade, and numerous children’s activities. Phone 204-447-2229.
